Become one of the first graduate teachers to benefit from a new world-leading program.

The Career Start Pilot supports graduate teachers by providing a reduction in face-to-face teaching to participate in specialised professional learning, mentoring, and opportunities to connect with other local graduates. There's also extra support for graduate health and wellbeing, and graduate teachers in rural and remote areas.

About the Role

The Pilot will allow graduate teachers more time and flexibility to take advantage of professional learning opportunities and work with experienced teachers in:

  • Peer observation and feedback
  • Lesson planning and development of classroom materials
  • Assessing students and analysing assessment data
  • Preparing and meeting with parent(s) / carer(s)
  • Development of wellbeing strategies

Qualifications or experience

You’ll have:

  • graduated with a bachelor or master qualification within the last four years
  • registered provisionally with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)
  • commenced your first teaching position since gaining VIT provisional registration
  • been employed at a Classroom Level 1, Range 1 classification

From 2022, the Career Start Pilot is also open to provisionally registered teachers who have worked as Casual Relief Teachers or as a tutor for the Tutor Learning Initiative in 2021. Some secondary graduate teachers working in P-9 and P-12 schools may also be eligible.

Personal qualities

If you are passionate about helping children reach their full potential, and like working in a collaborative way, then the Career Start Pilot is for you.
