Emergency ‘000’ call-takers are needed in Ballarat, East Burwood and Melbourne CBD.

The Emergency Services and Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) are looking for call-takers to help provide 24-hour emergency dispatch services — for police, fire, ambulance and Victoria State Emergency Service.

What triple zero call-takers do

Here are just some of the things they do:

  • answer emergency triple zero calls from the public
  • verify the event location and accurately identify it on a mapping system
  • enter relevant information into a dispatch system for emergency services
  • process updates and further information as the event or incident progresses

Qualifications or experience

No formal qualifications are needed. However you need to be able to use computer software quickly and accurately, type quickly, and follow established procedures carefully.

Personal qualities

If you can work quickly and accurately under pressure, and communicate with empathy, you have the right qualities.
