Become a youth justice worker

The Department of Justice and Regulation is looking for youth justice workers at Parkville and Malmsbury centres to provide security and support for young people.

Youth justice workers play an important caring role in helping young offenders understand the impact of their actions and address any underlying personal issues.

What youth justice workers do

Here are just some of the things youth justice workers do:

  • maintain a secure environment for young offenders, staff and the community
  • conduct searches and security checks
  • support and guide young offenders in their personal development through individual casework
  • encourage young offenders to contact their families and act on referrals to services

Qualifications and experience

You don’t need any previous work experience or relevant qualification to apply. However these would be highly regarded. All training is provided.

Personal qualities

If you have the ability to build constructive, honest and respectful relationships with young people in care, the Department of Justice and Regulation needs you.
