About us

The Portable Long Service Authority (the Authority) is a self-funded statutory body established to administer the Long Service Benefits Portability Act 2018. The Act, together with the Long Service Benefits Portability Regulations 2020 provide a Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme. The Authority plays an important role in allowing workers in the community services, contract cleaning and security industries to build up long service benefits based on time in their industry rather than with a single employer. About the role

Reporting to the Managing Principal Lawyer, the Senior Lawyer's role is to provide accurate and practical legal advice to support the Portable Long Service Authority's effective administration of the Long Service Portability Act 2018 (Vic). This is a key trusted advisory role which is embedded in the business supporting operations and other parts of the Authority to ensure operational processes and decisions are founded in sound legal reasoning, while also meeting corporate objectives.  This role will have a focus on advising on matters to do with compliance and enforcement but will also be required to advise on a diverse range of matters to all different business units. You will also work closely with the Lawyer and Legal Support Officer to provide advice and mentorship where required. There is a requirement to regularly attend the Bendigo head office, with flexibility to work some days at the Docklands office and work from home two days per week.

About you

As the Senior Lawyer, you will be an experienced legal practitioner, with extensive experience in criminal law.  You will take a sound and proactive approach to the interpretation and application of our governing legislation and associated regulations.  You will also have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, including supporting and training staff to understand the Authority's obligations under its governing legislation and other compliance obligations as a Statutory Authority within the Victorian Government.
