These roles provide managerial support to the General Internal Medicine service at each site and an inpatient consultation service. The senior medical registrar at Sunshine also supports the Obstetric Medicine Service while the senior medical registrar at Footscray works closely with the Director of Physician Education to organise preparation for the RACP written and clinical examinations and coordinate Western Health as a site for the RACP clinical examination.

Six month rotations are offered in the following areas:

  • Clinical Lead Registrars (Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals)

  • Community Medicine/Obstetric Medicine

  • Hospital in the Home

  • Rapid Assessment Medical Unit

The General Internal Medicine Unit operates across the two campuses - Footscray and Sunshine Hospitals. Both hospitals have four inpatient General Internal Medicine inpatient teams and admit over 3,000 patients each a year.

The General Internal Medicine Unit is closely associated with the University of Melbourne, Western Clinical School and has an active research program and consultants with experience in supporting productive advanced training projects. There are also opportunities for future higher degree research training projects/PhDs.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Medical Officers who:
