About The Roles:


The Neuropsychiatry Unit, based at the John Cade Building of the Royal Melbourne Hospital is a Victorian tertiary assessment service that has provided expert and multidisciplinary diagnostic assessments for patients with complex neuropsychiatric conditions for over three decades. The unit is involved in a range of world-leading research endeavors, innovative educational programs, and training of mental health clinicians to meet the future specialized mental health needs of the community.  We are currently recruiting to four training positions commencing in 2022:



Neuropsychiatry In-Patient Registrar


Major components of this role includes participation in triaging of all new referrals to the service and in conjunction with the specialised multi-disciplinary team provide clinical expertise and diagnostic clarification for patients with complex presentations ranging across psychiatry, neurology and general medicine including;



  • Organic mental disorders

  • Early onset and atypical dementia

  • Huntington’s disease

  • Epilepsy

  • Neurodegenerative conditions

  • Neuroimaging in mental illness

  • Chronic psychotic disorders

  • Movement disorders


Epworth Neuropsychiatry Registrar (1.0)


This STP training position will provide trainees with neuropsychiatric training across a range of neuropsychiatric and neurological disorders. The Epworth Hospital Richmond hospital provides comprehensive programs in brain injury, brain injury rehabilitation, neurology and medicine.  The role of the trainee will be to provide neuropsychiatry input in a consultation liason role.  The training position will include a proportion of time at the Neuropsychiatry Unit at Royal Melbourne Hospital for access to non-clinical (supervision, education, grand rounds in neuropsychiatry, neurology and psychiatry) and clinical activities (involvement in neuropsychiatry clinics which include general neuropsychiatry, young onset dementia and metabolic neuropsychiatry and exposure to regular neuroimaging clinical review sessions).


 


Neuropsychiatry Epilepsy Fellow


This position is a joint position, half funded as a Neuropsychiatry trainee and half funded as an Epilepsy fellow in the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, The registrar in this position provides neuropsychiatry consultation to the video telemetry unit and general hospital. This configuration has been previously recognized by the RANZCP as an appropriate full time Advanced Training post (Consultation Liaison or Generalist).
