RMH Registered Nurse Postgraduate Programs- Specialty Nursing Practice



  • Neurosciences (Neurology and Neurosurgery)

  • Haematology/ Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)

  • Perioperative (Scrub Scout, Perianaesthetics and Recovery)

  • Renal Nursing (including Dialysis and Renal transplant)





  • Supported Postgraduate study

  • You are an AHPRA Registered nurse with acute experience and able to work a range of AM/PM & ND shifts, within our supportive and dedicated multidisciplinary team

  • You have recent acute clinical experience

About the Service:



Our Specialty Nursing Practice departments at the Royal Melbourne Hospital are currently seeking highly motivated Registered Nurses to join our teams. We are offering supported educational postgraduate nursing programs in our specialty nursing practice areas. Please see more detailed department information below:



Neurosciences (Acute Stroke and Neurology (8B) and Neurosurgery (4S) - Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing (Neurosciences - Australian Catholic University (ACU) 



The RMH Department of Neurology and Stroke is an internationally recognised centre for world class patient care. The RMH is affiliated with ACU to deliver the Graduate Certificate in Neurosciences Nursing. This course will provide you with a sound understanding of the theory and scientific advances that underpin the comprehensive care and management of Neurology, Acute Stroke, Epilepsy and Neurosurgical patients.



You will apply this knowledge to clinical practice, demonstrating the ability to competently care for patients with complex care requirements using evidence based approaches.  There is opportunity for employment on Neurosurgery (4S) and Acute Stroke and Neurology (8B) wards. Please list preference in cover letter. Applicants must have minimum 1 year acute nursing experience to apply.



Haematology/ Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) (7B)- Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing- The University of Melbourne




As partners in the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC), the Haematology/BMT ward care for patients with blood cancer and other blood disorders.



RMH is affiliated with the University of Melbourne (UoM) to deliver the Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing. This course will provide you with a sound understanding of the theory and scientific advances that underpin the comprehensive care and management of people affected by cancer. You will apply this knowledge to clinical practice, demonstrating the ability to competently care for patients with complex care requirements using evidence-based approaches. Applicants must have minimum 1 year acute nursing experience to apply.



Perioperative Department- Graduate Certificate of Nursing Practice (Perioperative)- Deakin University




The RMH Perioperative Services consists of 16 theatres and 25 Recovery bays catering for all major types of adult surgery (with the exception of obstetrics and gynaecology) and major trauma. The RMH Perioperative department caters for 60+ elective and emergency surgeries a day. The Graduate Certificate of Nursing Practice (GCNP) - Perioperative course is designed to prepare nurses to meet the complex challenges within the speciality practice area of perioperative nursing and to progressively build upon knowledge and skills to explore the specific roles within perioperative nursing practice.



The RMH Perioperative Department is affiliated with Deakin University, and together offer a supported program- The Graduate Certificate of Nursing Practice (Perioperative Nursing). The program length is 12 months. Applicants must have 1 year Perioperative Department nursing experience to apply. Please list Specialty rotation preference in cover letter (Scrub/Scout or Anaesthetics/Recovery).



Renal (6SW. 6W) Graduate Certificate in Nursing (Renal)-University of Tasmania (UTAS)




The RMH kidney care service provides integrated renal disease, dialysis and transplant service and is the largest comprehensive renal service in Victoria.


RMH is affiliated with the UTAS to deliver the Graduate Certificate in Nursing (Renal). This course will provide you with a sound understanding of the theory and scientific advances that underpin the comprehensive care and management of people affected by renal diseases. You will apply this knowledge to clinical practice, demonstrating the ability to competently care for patients with complex care requirements using evidence-based approaches. Applicants must have minimum 1 year acute nursing experience to apply.
