A new and exciting opportunity exists to lead our Aboriginal Health team to deliver a highly valued and important service to our consumers. We are seeking a driven and community focused nursing professional who has excellent leadership skills and is passionate about improving health outcomes in our local aboriginal community.

The Position:

This key role will provide leadership and coordination to the Aboriginal Health Unit (AHU) team and will work with the AHU team to ensure the delivery of culturally safe, timely and appropriate services to our consumers.  

The Team Leader will be responsible for ensuring the units service objectives are met and will play a lead role in facilitating relationships between the AHU, Aboriginal patients and other health professionals within BRHS as well as positive collaboration with the five ACCHOS of East Gippsland and other stakeholders.

The Department:

The BRHS Aboriginal Health Unit actively supports our local Aboriginal community to work towards improving their experience and outcomes in personal health and the health of community.  The Unit provides services which are culturally appropriate, accessible and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live in the Bairnsdale and East Gippsland area.

Key criteria you need:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • A minimum of 3 year's experience working in a relevant role in the health industry
  • Experience leading a team with well-developed leadership skills with the proven ability to develop a high functioning and engaged team
  • A demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal culture and issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people accessing culturally safe health care and services.
  • Understanding of hospital practices relating to records management, patient privacy, care planning, effective discharge and care coordination
  • Proven communication skills and ability to establish and maintain effective relationships internally and externally in community
  • Understanding of the Access and Support program aims of capacity building and promoting independence to live safely in the community
