About the branch

The Aboriginal Heritage Partnerships Coordinator – Falls to Hotham is part of the Managing Country Together Directorate, which supports Parks Victoria to work effectively with Traditional Owners to manage cultural landscapes across the State. The Directorate is developing and supporting a program of reform that positions and prepares Parks Victoria for a rapidly changing operating environment – in particular with respect to increasing numbers of native title settlements, Registered Aboriginal Parties and jointly managed parks.

About the role and your responsibilities:  

As the Aboriginal Heritage Partnerships Coordinator, your primary focus of the position will be to lead a small team of Heritage Advisors in ensuring the effective delivery of a range of high priority projects for Parks Victoria. You will lead a small team of heritage advisors providing high level technical support in the delivery of compliance obligations under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic) and implementation of the Managing Country Together approach to Traditional Owner partnerships. This role also provides strategic advice and support in positioning Parks Victoria with key organisations involved in the delivery of these projects including Traditional Owner organisations, the Department of Jobs Precincts and Regions (DJPR), and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP). You will have specific responsibilities to support the development of the Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing Business Case.  

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in engagement and partnership-building with Traditional Owners, Aboriginal persons and key Aboriginal groups
  • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative, sensitive and practical solutions and provide strategic advice to complex issues
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including the ability to develop and monitor complex work programs and achieve corporate objectives
  • A specialist or post-graduate tertiary qualification in cultural heritage management or similar or demonstrated extensive relevant experience is required
  • A current Employee Working with Children check is required.
