About the facility

Barwon Health Audiology is based at University Hospital Geelong, and provides diagnostic hearing assessment and care for consumers in the Barwon region. Our Inpatient program contributes to safety and quality in the hospital setting by ensuring patients can be active partners in their healthcare. Allied Health Assistants work with Audiologists to ensure patients with hearing impairment are identified and supported during their hospital stay.

Barwon Health has recently been successful for state government funding to support the high demand for Ear, Nose and Throat specialist care in the Geelong region. This creates an exciting opportunity for an Allied Health Assistant to work within the Barwon Audiology team to support the development of new outreach hearing and ear health services to children and adults across the region. This brand new program will combine face to face visiting community clinics, telehealth services, other new technologies, and will link with centrally based allied health and medical specialists at University Hospital Geelong. A key focus of this program will be to improve access to excellent ear health and hearing care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our region.

About the role

You will work under the supervision of Audiologists, and be supported by other Allied Health Assistants in a multidisciplinary approach to patient centred care.

Training of the successful applicant will be available in:

  • Primary health care & patient education in ear and hearing health

  • Use of technology to screen for ear and hearing health problems in adults and children

  • Using Telehealth technology to link patients in the community with medical specialists and allied health practitioners

  • Helping patients with hearing devices when problems are identified

  • Ensuring patients can hear well enough to participate in social settings, in education, and in shared decision making with other health professionals

A current driver’s licence and a willingness to travel to regional clinics is required.

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Police check and Working with Children Check.
