About us

Information Integrity and Access provides essential corporate services to support the governance, management, access, and delivery of information to the department, its Ministers and stakeholders.

This includes the provision of services relating to Freedom of Information (FOI), information, records and data management, archival and mail services, and management of the department's electronic document and electronic briefing and correspondence systems.

The FOI Unit consists of two business areas: the FOI Requests team who manage requests for documents on behalf of business units, with applicants typically including Members of Parliament, journalists, prisoners and members of the public, and the FOI Operations team who coordinate Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (OVIC) reviews, complaints and VCAT matters.

About the role

As the Assistant Manager, Freedom of Information, you will be responsible for:

  • managing, processing, and making decisions on requests made to the department under the Freedom of Information Act 1982, including significant and complex requests
  • assisting the Manager, FOI Requests and Manager, FOI Operations with the effective management of the FOI Unit
  • providing leadership oversight of the processes to respond to requests from individuals in line with internal timeframes and statutory obligations under the FOI Act
  • assisting the Manager, FOI Operations with operational needs including but not limited to OVIC complaints and reviews, VCAT matters, ad hoc and regular reporting and FOI education and training.

About you

As the Assistant Manager, Freedom of Information, you will possess:

  • experience and knowledge in the application of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (desirable)
  • experience in project management
  • demonstrated experience in developing and implementing business and continuous improvement processes
  • well-developed computer skills with a working knowledge of the full range of Microsoft Windows and MS Office application suite software, and preferably, Electronic Document and Records Management Systems.

Keys to your success will be your highly developed communication, interpersonal and leadership skills including the ability to manage the development of stakeholder initiatives.
