The Biomedical Engineering Department is seeking a Class 3 Senior Biomedical Engineer. Opportunities will exist to work across all Western Health campuses as requested by the Biomedical Engineering Co-Ordinator/Manager.  This permanent full time role will support diverse clinical services such as Theatres, ICU, ED, NICU and general wards.



Duties



  • Ensure the biomedical engineering service maintains compliance relevant Australian Standards and ACHS EQuiP quality frameworks.

  • Able to perform maintenance and repair of biomedical equipment at all WH sites and ensure biomedical equipment are maintained in a cost effective and timely manner.

  • Perform preventative maintenance of biomedical equipment and ensure testing is performed annually with functional testing, calibration, maintenance and safety testing in line with Australian Standards, manufacturer’s recommendations and department procedures.

  • Monitor and ensure patient treatment areas are tested annually in compliance with relevant Australian Standards and the work is completed within a timely manner.

  • Ensure acceptance testing and commissioning of new/loan biomedical equipment are coordinated in a timely manner with asset details recorded within the biomedical equipment asset database.

  • Ensure safe removal of condemned biomedical equipment from service and update the biomedical equipment asset database accordingly.

  • Ensure the biomedical engineering asset database is maintained and updated regularly with the latest data

  • Identify and prioritise PULSE work order for timely completion.

  • Facilitate the ordering of parts as required for timely completion of PULSE work order

  • Provide timely solutions on biomedical engineering issues.

  • Establish strong relationships with internal WH staffs and external suppliers.

  • Able collaborate with other biomedical engineering staff to resolve biomedical engineering problems and assist as necessary to complete repairs and preventative maintenance.

  • Supervision of work experience students and volunteer workers as required.

  • Co-ordination of contractors and/or external service providers as required.

  • Lead Asset Management processes for biomedical devices and maintaining inventory stock control.

  • Capable to perform equipment investigation and provide conclusion to equipment failure/breakdown from RISKMAN notifications.

  • Able to manage Product Recall/Alert notification and ensure correction plans are implemented.

  • Able to manage the Medical Imaging service reports folder

  • Capable in managing small scale Biomedical Engineering capital replacement projects.

  • Able to assist and manage cybersecurity policy in accordance with WH DTS guidelines.

  • Provide leave coverage for Biomedical Engineering Co-Ordinator as required.

  • Undertake other Biomedical Engineering duties within the capability of the engineer as requested by Biomedical Manager and/or Biomedical Co-Ordinator.


Skills & Experience



  • Eligible for membership to Engineers Australia as a professional Biomedical Engineer or Recognised Qualifications in Engineering/Science

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as Class 2 Year 2 Biomedical Engineer

  • Proven ability to work within a team environment and lead the team in the absence of Departmental Manager

  • Committed to providing service delivery with successful outcomes

  • Demonstrated understanding of customer service for internal and external customers and is committed to effectively meeting their needs in a professional manner

  • Demonstrated electronic systems problem solving ability in a time efficient matter

  • Ability to perform task without direction and be able to show initiative

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with clinical, management and technical staff

  • Excellent organisation skills

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in anaesthetic delivery system, ventilation delivery units and patient monitoring systems

  • Victorian Driver's Licence or equivalent
