Selection Criteria

Role

Performs and/or supervises tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice and school policy.  This may include the supervision and coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.  Supervision and coordination would be limited to ensuring routine tasks are performed to required standards.  Input into identifying training needs and development of education support class staff within the work area or educational program becomes an important feature at range 2.

Specialised support to achieve specific outcomes is a feature of range 2.  This will involve accountability for the management and the day to day operation of the College Cafe, under the direction of the principal or another senior manager.

Performs technical tasks that require a sound knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles that are used to develop and adapt work methods and make judgements where there are clear guidelines and limited options. 

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.  Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and operate the College Cafe.
  • Provide high level customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide high quality, timely Barista services
  • Ensure correct food handling procedures are adhered to at all times
  • Use effective communication skills
  • Coordinate the supply of food and materials, ensuring the Cafe is sufficiently stocked to service all stakeholders.
  • Train students in Cafe Operations and Barista skills
  • Work with community groups to increase patronage of the Cafe.
  • Utilise social media for marketing purposes

Location Profile

2004 saw the establishment of Carrum Downs Secondary College with its inaugural group of students graduating year 12 in 2009. Situated in a vibrant and rapidly growing community 42km southeast of Melbourne, the College currently has an enrolment of 900 students with 68 teaching staff and 25 support staff.

CDSC fosters a supportive learning environment where every young person is empowered to grow as responsible and creative members of our community, valuing Respect, Effort and Integrity.

Staff and Students operate in one of four houses from Year 7 -12, providing a framework for the development of positive relationships to optimise learning outcomes, wellbeing and pathways. Students are encouraged to have a voice and identity, and the College boasts an extensive Student Leadership Program.

Students in Year 7-10 study the CORE subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health and Physical Education, and can access Visual and Performing Arts, Technology and LOTE (Spanish & Japanese). The Senior School program includes an extensive range of curriculum options offering students VCE, VCAL, VET and School Based Apprenticeship opportunities.

Recent key improvements seen in Curriculum and Assessment development have enabled the spotlight to focus on Excellence in Teaching and Learning, with specific introduction of a whole-school lesson schema. Year 7, 8 and 9 students engage in the Targeted Teaching Program in English and Maths which allows students to be supported at their point of need.

CDSC has introduced Professional Learning Communities this year which has seen a focus on teams using data to drive teaching and learning and student learning growth.

Our college is currently in the process of building a new STEAM Centre and introducing STEAM as a subject in Year 7 for 2022.
