Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Clinical Nurse Consultant with an interest in acute and chronic pain to join the HIP Pain Service on a fixed term, part time basis.

This position is based with the Acute Pain Service in the Department of Anaesthesia at Austin Health, and is part of the Health Independence Programs (HIP).

The Health Independence Program encompasses many of the services that deliver health care to support the transition from hospital to home. These services can also prevent the need for a hospital presentation or stay, with people able to access these services directly from the community.

The Pain Service is responsible for coordinating the management of patients with both acute, and complex and persistent pain by providing an expert assessment and treatment service for HIP eligible patients.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant role in the Acute Pain Service is responsible for coordinating the management of acute pain for in-patients requiring specialised analgesic techniques, early identification of transitional patients and the provision of education and training of nursing and allied health staff in the relief of pain.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant role in the Chronic Pain Service is responsible for following up patients post medical and allied health assessments, providing 1:1 patient education and monitoring and review of medications.

To be successful in this position you must demonstrate:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

  • Minimum of five years clinical experience.

  • Demonstrated negotiation, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Demonstrated time management skills to meet key priorities within the clinical role.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, best practice and safety.

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and evidence based practice.

  • Relevant acute surgical clinical nursing skills.

  • Patient centred approach to care delivery.

  • Demonstrated experience with provision of on-going continuous education in the ward environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to practice autonomously and collaborate with others as an effective member of a team.

  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks of nursing practice and education.

  • Proficient in relevant computer skills in MS Office applications including knowledge of various computer applications for the work role.

Work with us! Your reward is to work in a collaborative environment which will provide you with opportunities for ongoing training and development. Your benefits will include salary packaging, and employee assistance program.

All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory National Police Check conducted by Austin Health and if required, a Working With Children Check.

Austin Health is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to attracting and retaining a diverse workforce that reflects the community we serve.  Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged.
