An exciting opportunity awaits a dedicated nursing professional committed to supporting the Infection Prevention and Control team at the Women’s during a period of maternity leave and organisational change.


Infection Prevention and Control Clinical Nurse Consultant
Part-time fixed term position (1 year)
24 Hours per week

The Infection Prevention and Control service is responsible for the prevention and monitoring of hospital acquired infections by education, surveillance and development of relevant policies and procedures.  The primary goals of the service are to:



  • Minimise patient morbidity resulting from hospital acquired infections.

  • Minimise the risks of hospital staff contracting or spreading infections.

  • Be a resource for all matters relating to neonatal and women’s infection control within the hospital and the broader community.


Your contribution  


The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) will function as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to provide the Infection Prevention and Control service within the framework of national guidelines and the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards for Preventing and Controlling Healthcare Associated Infections. The CNC plays a key role in identifying risks of hospital acquired infections and initiating interventions, including measurement of outcomes. They also contribute to reducing the risk of hospital acquired infections by undertaking and initiating surveillance, auditing and educational activities.


Your duties will include but are not limited to:



  • Participate in the Women’s Hand Hygiene Program

  • Participate in and conduct surveillance of health-care associated infections including those required to meet the hospital’s requirements under the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services surveillance program (currently co-ordinated by VICNISS) and the Statement of Priorities and associated reporting.

  • Participate in the staff immunisation program by maintenance of the staff health database, vaccine delivery and education, including the annual staff influenza vaccination program.

  • Participate in the investigation and management of staff and patient exposures to infectious disease.
