Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.


An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and experienced Clinical Psychologist to join our Health Independence Program (HIP) in a causal capacity.


The Clinical Psychologist will work casual as required as a member of the multidisciplinary team to provide client-centred, evidence-based assessment and treatment for community-dwelling clients experiencing chronic and complex health conditions. The Clinical Psychologist will work across multiple services within HIP providing clinical psychological assessments and interventions for HIP eligible clients.


By demonstrating leadership, organizational, interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills, the Clinical Psychologist will facilitate the delivery of a high quality, responsive service which is patient centred and goal focused in order to achieve evidence based best practice and optimise health outcomes for patients and the community.


Essential for Performance in the Position will include:


Educational Qualifications and Training



  • Registered with AHPRA as an Endorsed Clinical Psychologist.

  • Eligible for membership of the APS College of Clinical Psychology. 

  • A Masters or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology.  


Skills and experience



  • Client centred approach to service delivery.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a collaborative approach to client care and service development/delivery.

  • Demonstrated clinical skills in psychological assessment, formulation, treatment and record keeping.

  • Demonstrated experience in providing supervision to psychologists and completion of training required by AHPRA for the conduct of supervision (AHPRA endorsed supervisor) as relevant.

  • Demonstrated understanding of principles of service responsiveness to consumers and carers.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, resourceful and adaptive to change.

  • Ability to share expertise with other staff through formal and informal teaching.

  • High level of verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the development and maintenance of high quality care.

  • Demonstrated information technology skills and computer literacy.

  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement and safety.

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

  • Experience in the supervision of staff.

  • Experience in hospital settings.

  • Well-developed workload and time management skills.


Desirable for Performance in the Position will include:



  • Published research or papers in a relevant field.

  • Awareness and understanding of the Health Independence Program Guidelines (2008).
