About the role:

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Communications Manager to lead our social media team at Victoria Police. With almost 60 local and corporate social media pages across a range of platforms, this is an exciting opportunity to set the direction and build community engagement with a large audience. 

The successful applicant will manage a talented team of social media experts who play a crucial role of engaging with Victorians every single day. The team not only moderate our channels but also deliver important digital analytics and are the driving force behind our social media led campaigns. Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager of Marketing and Engagement, the social media team works closely with digital production, campaigns and the media team to promote the work of Victoria Police and assist police with operational matters. 

The current social media team is relatively new as we have recently merged two teams, so this is a rare and exciting opportunity to shape the team and set the future direction. So we are looking for someone passionate about digital and delivering messaging to the Victorian community.

Your duties will include:

  • Manage a team of social media experts, many of whom work on a seven day a week roster.
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of the social media calendar, including key campaigns.
  • Implement data-led reporting practices cross all social platforms.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to develop social solutions that meet core objectives.
  • Develop and execute a social media strategy for Victoria Police.
  • Work with external stakeholders where relevant, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Google.
  • Lead the social media response during critical incidents and crisis. 

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Previous experience managing a large social media team is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working in both the public and private sectors in desirable.
  • Excellent understanding of the social media landscape with expertise in social strategy.
  • Previous experience in developing content for a variety of platforms.
  • Excellent understanding of analytics and the importance of reporting.
  • Expertise in creating content that appeals and engages with our audience.
  • Knowledgeable and always up-to-date with changing trends throughout all social media platforms.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and lead a team during a crisis.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • Position location is Victoria Police Centre. 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
