We have an opportunity for an experienced and proactive Compliance Specialist to play an integral role in ensuring VMIA comply to all its compliance obligations.

Compliance Specialist, Full-Time, Ongoing

Your role

We have an opportunity for an experienced and proactive Compliance Specialist to play an integral role in ensuring VMIA comply to all its compliance obligations.

Reporting to the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, you'll oversee VMIA's compliance framework and provide expert compliance advice and guidance to the business to ensure compliance with all applicable legislative and regulatory requirements including the Prudential Insurance Standards 2015 and the Standing Directions 2018 under the Financial Management Act 1994 (Vic).

You draw on your stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively in complex, fast-paced environments. You'll need to be forward thinking, able to work collaboratively and be able to inspire and ensure a strong and mature compliance culture within VMIA.

Your key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Oversee our compliance obligations and ensure appropriate controls in place to manage compliance risks
  • Prepare and draft Compliance reports for General Counsel & Corporate Secretary and for the Board, Audit and Risk Committees
  • Ensure the six monthly and yearly updates to compliance obligations are adhered to
  • Lead the annual compliance year end attestation activities and liaise with the organisation to ensure the attestation obligations are met under the Prudential Insurance Standards
  • Work with the legal counsel to ensure all legislative and regulatory obligations are monitored and managed.

Your key relationships

  • Corporate Counsel & Corporate Secretary – You report to the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary on all compliance activities and take direction and guidance on the compliance activities to be undertaken
  • Legal Counsel – You work with the legal counsel to ensure all legislative and regulatory obligations are monitored and managed
  • Executive sponsors of key initiatives including all Chief Officers – You engage with senior key stakeholders to identify compliance activities and to proactively plan the compliance requirements and timeframes
  • All business units across VMIA – You partner with the business to provide timely compliance advice and support to ensure the organisation meets all applicable legislative and regulatory obligations.

What we're looking for

  • A minimum of 4 years' experience as a Compliance Adviser/Specialist in a government department or statutory authority
  • Strong knowledge of legislative and policy frameworks with knowledge of the Prudential Insurance Standards and the Prudential Insurance Standards 2015 and the Standing Directions 2018 under the Financial Management Act 1994 (Vic)
  • Knowledge of AS3806:2006 Compliance Programs and AS ISO 19600:2015 Compliance Management Systems: Guidelines, Tickit on Demand Compliance Management System, TechOne system and Victorian Government compliance and procurement processes
  • High level problem solving, analytical and research skills
  • Solid business writing skills in preparing reports, Committee papers, policies and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication experience
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • “Doer” and a strong team player
  • Self-starter who can perform flawlessly with minimal direction
