  • Position Title: Intensivist (Consultant Development Role)

  • Hours per week: 24 hours per week (2 positions available)

  • Employment Status: Fixed Term Part-Time

  • Appointment Period: 12 months commencing February 2022


The Consultant Development Role (CDR) role is a fixed-term 1 year 0.6 FTE locum role for newly qualified intensivists. The position provides an opportunity to work at consultant level in a busy academic intensive care unit, while consolidating critical care skills and acquiring experience in non-technical domains of professional practice. As part of the position, pro rata non-clinical time, access to CME funding and conference leave are included. Personal development of research capability, clinical governance skills, teaching skills and other elements of professional capability is provided within a highly positive medical, nursing and allied health culture. The Department of Intensive Care at Austin Health manages up to 2,500 critically ill patients per year and supports several state services including liver transplantation and spinal services, as well as all major medical and surgical services. Eligible applicants must hold Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine and have demonstrated expertise in the complex critical care setting.
