Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to join our team as the Director, Policy, Governance, and Legal.

  • In this pivotal role, you will lead and manage the legal, governance, risk, policy, complaints, and records management functions within VCAT.
  • You will drive strategic projects that support service transformation, operational improvement, and stakeholder engagement.
  • You will provide leadership and management to a small team, defining roles and expectations, and supporting individuals to achieve their potential.
  • Additionally, you will lead strategic process improvement initiatives and manage projects of strategic importance, maintain an understanding of related legislation and policy impacting VCAT, and provide expert advice and innovative solutions to complex and sensitive issues.
  • You will oversee the delivery of legal, governance, risk, policy, complaints, and records management functions, build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, project sponsors, and other key stakeholders, and establish and maintain project governance structures, ensuring clear accountability and decision-making.

About you

  • You will have experience in leading and mentoring teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential, as is the ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholders.
  • You will have demonstrated experience in managing large-scale projects and programs, preferably in a complex public sector environment.
  • Your strong analytical and problem-solving skills will enable you to develop strategic responses to complex challenges.
  • You will have a strong understanding of project governance principles and risk management frameworks, and experience in leading change initiatives and applying change management methodologies.
  • You are committed to delivering quality outcomes and services, act with integrity, honesty, transparency, and fairness, value diversity, and treat others with respect.
  • You provide objective, frank, and fearless advice.
