Director, Project System Improvement – Office of Projects Victoria

The Office of Projects Victoria (OPV) supports the successful delivery of major infrastructure projects across Victoria by providing advice on project oversight and assurance so that the full benefits of the significant investment in infrastructure are realised for all Victorians.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Project System, this newly created role is responsible for identifying and leading project system wide improvements, including the project delivery centre of excellence. You will lead reviews and projects relating to infrastructure delivery and system improvement for client departments and Ministers.

The role will work collaboratively with industry in both the public and private sector and work closely with senior stakeholders to foster an environment of continuous improvement and contribute to Whole of Government work.

With a successful background in a senior role within construction, engineering or infrastructure projects, your understanding of how to effectively manage a broad range of matters affecting project delivery, including those of a legal, land, planning, environmental or political nature, will be an asset.

This role is required to lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams and model OPV values and behaviours to create an environment where continuous improvement flourishes.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • highly astute analytical skills with a high level of emotional intelligence that allows you to communicate effectively to convey complex and technical issues to a large range of audiences on a regular basis;
  • knowledge and experience with the most recent project management practices, methodologies, risk management techniques, and the use of the latest software and online tools;
  • an understanding of the Government's policy objectives and infrastructure strategies, and an excellent grasp of construction industry issues, trends and stakeholders;
  • demonstrated leadership capabilities that motivate individuals to deliver high quality outcomes through your ability to communicate a vision of excellence;
  • proven ability to deliver large, complex projects despite competing priorities, on time and within budget;
  • highly developed negotiating and influencing skills with the ability to remain flexible while still delivering the best possible outcomes
  • a strong understanding of the Government's policy objectives and infrastructure strategies, and an excellent grasp of construction industry issues, trends and stakeholders;
  • certification as a project management professional; and
  • a tertiary qualification in Project Management, Engineering, Construction or demonstrated experience equivalent.
