Tinternvale Primary School is in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, bordering the suburbs of Ringwood East, Bayswater North and Croydon South. Currently the enrolment is 340 students. The school is located on a spacious tiered site with natural vegetation a feature of the grounds. There are 16 permanent classrooms, a stand-alone Visual Arts room and Library. The Before and After Care facility (run by Their Care) occupies its own building within the school grounds and is well used. The multi-cultural nature of the school is an asset, enriching the educational experiences of all students. BER funds provided a full sized Gym and Performing Arts facility. In 2010 the Prep area was re-modelled using NSP funds to create an open learning space of three classrooms and a purpose built outdoor learning area. The main Administration building was refurbished in 2012 to include larger offices and an open learning space with four classrooms. Our extensive grounds include a variety of areas for both play and relaxation. In 2019 our new Prep ¿ 2 playground was built and in 2023 our Student Representative Council designed and organised a new 5/6 playground. New shade sails were erected over all three playgrounds and the new tiered seating area next to the oval. A Sensory Garden was created with the assistance of students from Bayswater Secondary College and an indigenous garden with a dry riverbed and yarning circle was built in 2023.
Our staff possess a range of expertise and are dedicated and committed to developing a learning community that maximises the overall educational needs of our students. Student wellbeing is at the centre of everything we do, guiding us towards improved teaching and learning for all students and teachers using current research, DET best practice and via the creative and innovative use of ICT. Staff plan together in teams and data drives planning. This continued implementation of our whole school documented curriculum in Literacy, Maths and Wellbeing, led by our three Learning Specialist (Literacy, Maths & Wellbeing), enables explicit, differentiated instruction.
Our Annual Implementation Plan is implemented through the School Improvement Team, Curriculum Teams, Professional Learning Communities, Level Teams and the PDP process. We welcome preservice teachers, preservice ES staff, preservice OT students, parent helpers, and work experience students; we view their inclusion in our school as a vital part of our learning.
At Tinternvale PS, we have high expectations of our students, both behaviourally and academically. We expect staff and students to always uphold respectful behaviours and for staff to work with students to ensure they behave appropriately. Wellbeing is an important whole school focus. A positive approach to student management and the development of positive relationships within our school community are a critical part of our ethos. Our school values are Inclusion, Kindness and Honesty. These school values were chosen by our whole school community in 2022. Our staff are responsible for providing a child safe environment in accordance with the Child Safe Standards. The DET Values of Leadership, Human Rights, Respect, Accountability, Impartiality, Integrity and Responsiveness drive our daily work and relationships within the school community. An important part of our wellbeing program are our school dogs.
We currently have specialists in Physical Education, Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Science. Our language other than English (LOTE) is Auslan, which began in 2024. Extra support is offered to students from Prep to Year 6 via the Tutor Learning Initiative, while Tournament of Minds, High Ability Learning Groups and GATEways provide extra learning opportunities for our gifted and talented students. All students participate in the intensive swimming program from Prep ¿ 6 for one week every year. incursions and excursions related to inquiry topics and camp programs in the older classes. We provide many and varied opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills, both formal and informal. We also run programs aimed at further developing students¿ social skills and work habits.
A variety of extra-curricular activities are offered to students, including Junior Rockers, who provide tuition in keyboard, piano, drums, guitar and voice. Percussion Group, for our most vulnerable students, students may audition to be a member of Specialist Singers or Specialist Art. Lunch time activities include Street Dance, Chess, Soccer Club, reading in the Library. Three mornings a week students may arrive at school early to be part of Joggers¿ Club and/or Morning Movers.

An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).
A role at this range may include:
An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.
