EMERGENCY MEDICINE SPECIALIST

The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital is a world class specialist hospital in eye and ear care that provides services across Victoria. As Australia’s only specialist eye, ear, nose and throat hospital, the Eye and Ear has been providing care for the senses for 150 years. The Eye and Ear has almost 60 different outpatient clinics for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of vision and hearing loss and provides a 24-hour emergency eye and ear, nose, and throat service. Every year the Eye and Ear cares for over 220,000 patients, with over 160,000 outpatients nearly 44,000 emergency patients and over 17,000 inpatients. The hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment to create a modern internal structure, improve access for patients and visitors and staff.

About the Role

Leave cover -  May to October 2024 

2 sessions per week

An opportunity exists for a FACEM to initially cover leave for approximately 5 months for our specialised Emergency Department. We offer a 24/7 service for all eye and ENT emergencies.  Experience with ophthalmic trauma is desirable, however full training and development opportunities will be provided. Trainees who have recently completed their training are welcome to apply.

The Emergency Department Senior Medical Staff provide efficient, effective and timely patient-centred care within the Unit’s area of medicine. You will also help provide guidance and teaching opportunities to the junior medical staff, medical students and nurses.

This busy job requires a hands-on physician who will take on a direct patient load and be integral in ensuring efficient patient flow. You will be supported by ENT and eye trainee registrars, senior registrars, fellows and specialists, including consultant ophthalmologists, ENT surgeons and FACEMs.  You will work closely also with the ED Director, Nurse Unit Manager and with a multidisciplinary team including allied health clinicians and specialist nursing staff.

This is a unique opportunity to treat and learn from an interesting case mix of eye and ENT emergencies to complement your general emergency practice.

 

 All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Police Record Check, a COVID-19 vaccination certificate and a Working with Children Check.
