  • Location: Negotiable-Flexible (statewide) Undertake spatial and other forms of data analysis to support planning and implementation of the Strategic Fuel Breaks treatment program.

The Strategic Fuel Breaks and Mechanical works program received significant investment that will support community and asset protection and provide strategic advantage for planned burning and fire control operations in the context of a rapidly changing climate.

The GIS and Data Officer within the Strategic Fuel Breaks (SFB) and Mechanical works program will support the coordination of the program statewide, providing data analysis, reporting and contributing data visualisation to support statewide communication and understanding about priority strategic fuel break construction and mechanical fuel work undertaken by regions.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in fire behaviour science, emergency management or hazard modelling and prediction.
  • Expertise in GIS, SQL and either R or Python spatial databases and computer modelling is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Reporting and Analysis tools such as Microsoft Power BI is advantageous.

This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2022. The successful applicant may request to work from any DELWP office location, subject to negotiation and COVID-Safe transitional arrangements.

The departmentplays a major role in Victoria's emergency response activities, through an all-hazards, all-emergencies approach. Staff undertaking these roles have been quarantined from performing emergency management roles and participation in planned burning operations.
