GP Liaison - Senior Mental Health Clinician

This is a multidisciplinary role and is open to Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Occupational Therapists, and Social Workers.

Your new team

  • MidWest Area Mental Health Service provides a comprehensive range of specialist mental health services to people who reside in the local government areas of Melton, Brimbank and parts of Hume (Sunbury/Bulla).

  • We deliver specialist clinical programs across Adult Community Services, EMH/PARC/CL psychiatry, St Albans Community Care Unit and our Adult Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit and Adult Acute Inpatient Unit.

  • We are a diverse multi-disciplinary team welcoming and supportive of new staff

  • You will help us achieve the delivery of innovative and recovery orientated mental health care to those living in one of the fastest growing growth corridors in the state

Your new role

  • Lead with kindness, role modelling open communication and a desire to support and enhance clinical care across the team  

  • Demonstrate your extensive experience working as a mental health clinician within a multidisciplinary care team in a community setting

  • Pro-actively contribute to innovative service planning and development

  • Senior clinicians in the team are valued for their experience and knowledge, being offered the opportunity to expand their skill set and support the development of our future workforce.

  • Be responsible for GP liaison across the Brimbank or Melton team region and provide support and education to local GPs, alongside key medical staff from the team.

  • The role will provide direct specialist clinical interventions to consumers referred by local GPs requiring brief intervention/s. 

  • This may include assessment, short term evidenced-based therapeutic interventions, psychoeducation and referral to support consumers in their recovery and to reduce their risk of requiring acute or ongoing intervention. 

About you

  • Strong commitment to consumer-focused service delivery

  • Passionate about improving outcomes for people with a mental illness

  • Extensive experience in assessment/treatment of people with mental illness / psychiatric disability

  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong links with external service providers

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership within a multidisciplinary team

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

  • High level awareness of legislation governing mental health practice
