About the opportunity

We have an exciting ongoing opportunity for a Head of Gas and Pipelines Infrastructure Safety to contribute to the development and lead the implementation of Energy Safe's Strategy by drawing on industry insights on safety trends and by engaging and building strong relationships with key stakeholders in the industries.

You will contribute by:

  • Contributing to the overall leadership and strategy implementation of the division through close cooperation with the Executive and divisional management peers.
  • Overseeing and leading the operations of the Department and ensure that the work of the Department aligns to the strategic priorities of Energy Safe and the Division and the expectations of stakeholders and customers.
  • Providing strategic leadership and people management of staff through mentoring, coaching, performance management and development support to ensure consistency and quality in delivery of service.
  • Leading the Department to continuously identify, analyse, and evaluate key issues, recommend innovative options, solutions, practices, and processes to enable effective delivery of accountability and timely responses to stakeholders.
  • Advising executive and senior leadership on the impact of delivering proposed regulatory strategies on the broader service delivery to better inform those strategies.
  • Providing advice to the CEO and ELT on all matters relating to risk and risk management as they pertain to the gas and pipeline sector.
  • Overseeing the planning and manage the administration of the Victorian pipeline licensee and gas supply safety regime including safety cases, safety management plans and compliance with the Gas Safety Act, Pipelines Act, and subordinate regulations.
  • Leading the assessment and audit of safety cases and safety management plans of transmission, distribution, networks, pipelines, LP gas and natural gas retailing in Victoria.

To be successful, you'll have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering (either TAFE or University) or equivalent.
  • Significant technical regulatory experience relevant to the role.
  • Sound working knowledge and experience that is relevant to the construction, operation, maintenance, and regulation of linear energy infrastructure.
  • Understanding of the principles and application of safety management and knowledge of the legislation, regulations, standards, codes, and practices relating to energy safety.
  • Understanding of the risks and challenges associated with gas and pipelines.
  • Experience in the design, implementation, maintenance, and review of risk-based management systems.
  • Strong culture building skills including the ability to build high performing teams through coaching and performance development.   
  • Strong capabilities in leading change, influencing others to stretch their boundaries, and overcome obstacles.
