We are seeking an experienced criminal lawyer to join the Indictable Crime team based in Melbourne.

  • Full time maximum term position up until June 2025
  • This role is a parental leave replacement position
  • Salary based on experience, range: $84,626 - $98,901 plus super
  • Up to $15,900 in salary packaging and hybrid WFH & office model

About the role:

To provide high quality casework, in court advocacy, legal information and advice services as a criminal lawyer in indictable criminal matters. To complete casework and provide advocacy, legal information and advice services to persons charged with indictable crime offences.

This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country

About you:

As our ideal candidate, you will :

  • Appear as a duty lawyer at the Magistrates' Court of Victoria (and other courts and tribunals) to advocate on behalf of legal aid clients.
  • Deliver high quality legal services by conducting casework primarily in indictable criminal law matters.
  • Provide legal advice to clients either in custody or in the community by appointment, phone or videoconference including outreach visiting services (ie. attending prisons), as required.
  • Participate in law reform, professional and community legal education, and other VLA projects as required.
