Join our Migration team in the role of a Lawyer for the opportunity to act as an advocate by providing advice in migration law matters.

  • Part time (0.8FTE) maximum term position up to December 2023
  • Salary commensurate with experience, range: $74,361 - $95,041 (pro rata) plus superannuation

About the role:
You will act as an advocate by providing advice in migration law matters, with a particular focus on judicial review of administrative decisions. You will provide duty lawyer services at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal as well as instructing at all levels of the Commonwealth courts. You will also assist the Program Manager to advocate for systemic changes to law and policy to improve access to justice.

You will work collaboratively with local partners and agencies to contribute to community engagement initiatives, community legal education projects and law reform, with an understanding of issues impacting the justice system.

About you:
The Migration Lawyer role requires someone who is:

  • An experienced caseworker and advocate in Civil Law, particularly Migration Law.
  • Knowledgeable and has practical experience in laws and procedures with a focus on judicial review of administrative decisions.
  • A strategic thinker who can provide practical and strategic advice on legal and policy issues.
  • Able to positively engage with clients who are socially, culturally, and economically disadvantaged.
