About Medical and Cancer Services Division

The Medical and Cancer Services Division is one of six divisions within the Chief Operations Officer Directorate of Austin Health.  The Division’s clinical services operate across all three Austin Health campuses and Ballarat Health Services (BHS) within the Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC) and comprise a complex range of national, state-wide organisational wide and speciality clinical services.

About Cancer Services

Austin Health is one of the largest cancer service providers in Victoria.  A complete range of services are delivered to patients and their families, including medical oncology, clinical haematology, radiation oncology (Austin Health and BHS), cancer genetics, palliative care, wellness and supportive care programs, an active volunteer program and specialist cancer surgery (managed via a separate Division).  These are all provided in an environment that integrates research, teaching and training.

About the role

As the Locum Radiation Oncologist, you will work collaboratively with a supportive team of professionals, who are passionate about providing best practice care for patients. You’ll enjoy our continuing education and quality improvement strategy, which is developed through leadership forums and committees.

A regular day will see you:

• Participating in all collaborative areas of technical and quality treatment planning and delivery processes for IMRT, VMAT, brachytherapy, and IGRT across appropriate tumour sites.
• Engaging in regular R&D and technical collaborative meetings with radiation therapists, medical radiation physicists, and other relevant professionals.
• Attending regular in-house multidisciplinary meetings, contributing to audits, and developing protocols.
• Contributing to specific tumour site R&D initiatives through local, national, and international collaboration.
• Providing comprehensive management of both inpatient and outpatient care.
• Participating in Unit meetings and activities.
• Offering on-call services as required.
• Providing consultative services to other Units as needed.
• Supervising trainees and junior medical staff.
• Assisting in evaluating the delivery of services and implementing appropriate quality and risk management initiatives.
• Demonstrating a commitment to working as a team member alongside peer medical staff, junior medical staff, nursing staff, and other clinical professionals to ensure efficient, safe, and quality care across the continuum.

About you

As the Locum Radiation Oncologist, you will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care including research. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work, and have a keen interest in developing your skillset. Ideally you would have an interest in Gynaecological Malignancies and/or Lung Cancer.

You’ll further have:

• Must be a registered Medical Practitioner in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Current Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists or equivalent.
• Have appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Radiation Oncology
• Demonstrated commitment to high quality patient care.
• Demonstrated commitment and ongoing activity in research and/or clinical audit activities.
• Involvement in teaching and training of medical, technical and nursing staff, including at undergraduate and post-graduate level.
• Attendance and active involvement in relevant departmental, organisational and external meetings (i.e. College, Association and National/International bodies).
• Demonstrates engagement, teamwork and collaboration.
• Have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
• Have demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to Clinical Governance.
