About the Role

*This is a Fixed Term Position until June 2027*

 

Are you ready to shape the future of building and plumbing regulation? We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Manager to lead our Building Policy team in delivering innovative policy solutions and driving impactful reforms. As a key leader within the Building Division, you’ll guide a talented team on complex projects, oversee strategic initiatives, manage risks, and support the growth and development of your staff.

In this role, you’ll have the chance to work at the forefront of regulatory reform, providing high-level advice and ensuring our objectives make a real difference. Your experience in strategic policy delivery, coupled with a strong understanding of legislative and regulatory frameworks, will help you to excel.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

  • Lead and manage a team to deliver complex projects and policy advice related to the building and plumbing industries, including the development of project plans, monitoring performance against objectives, managing risks and issues, and ensuring that objectives are delivered on time.
  • Provide authoritative advice to senior management on complex policy/project issues and solutions and prepare detailed business cases, Cabinet submissions, Ministerial briefings, discussion papers and legislation, on time, and that demonstrate an understanding of the policy, political and legal context.
  • Identify emerging issues and ensure appropriate responses, including risk analyses and the preparation of reports for consideration by the Director, Executive Director, government, senior management, and stakeholders.
  • Foster key strategic relationships, design and lead complex stakeholder and community engagement strategies with key internal and external stakeholders, to facilitate a partnership approach and ensure that projects are implemented in a collaborative and effective manner.

As a key member of our Building Division leadership team, you will be accountable for aligning public sector values with performance standards, fostering high engagement, and ensuring achievement of outcomes. You will support your team’s development by setting clear role expectations, monitoring progress, and offering constructive feedback.

 

This role requires not only an accomplished understanding of organisational awareness but also the ability to anticipate issues and navigate changing stakeholder needs, leveraging strategic insights and relationships.

 

With demonstrated expertise in project delivery, you will translate strategies into effective programs, establishing governance frameworks to mitigate risks and ensure success. A strong capacity for influence and persuasion is essential as you engage with internal and external stakeholders, building support for policy objectives and negotiating effectively to achieve outcomes.

 

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • Sophisticated understanding of government and demonstrated experience in the management and successful delivery of complex projects in a multi-stakeholder environment is required.

 

Desirable

  • A tertiary qualification in public policy, economics, law or relevant field or equivalent experience is required.
  • Experience in the development and amendment of legislation and/or regulations in a State or Commonwealth public service setting is highly desirable.
