Safer Care Victoria was established in January 2017 to ensure our health services are providing safe, high-quality care to patients: every time, everywhere. As well as monitoring the standards of care provided, Safer Care Victoria is partnering with patients, clinicians and health service managers to support the continuous improvement of health care.

About the role: 

  • The purpose of the Clinical and Professional Leadership unit (CPLU) is to provide clinical and professional leadership to SCV, the sector and the Victorian government.

  • The unit comprises the professional leads: Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer, Chief Mental Health Nurse, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Allied Health Officer, and Chief Paramedic. It is also supported by a team of Directors and senior clinical advisers: Senior Maternity Advisor, Senior Nursing Adviser, Mental Health Nurse Adviser, Principal Maternal and Child Health Nurse Adviser, together with a team of project, policy and lived and living experience advisers.

  • The Manager, Mental Health Improvement Program has responsibility for management and oversight of SCV's mental health improvement initiatives. The initiatives will respond initially to the priorities identified by the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System.

How you'll make a difference:

  • Lead your team members to work at scale on health improvement initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Design, deliver and have oversight of health improvement initiatives that involve multiple stakeholders with the dual goals of achieving improved outcomes and building capability for improvement among sector participants.
  • Effectively supervise and provide leadership to a team of employees by:

    • working with senior management and leadership to set and achieve key performance indicators and standards
    • leading and supporting individuals to achieve their potential and contributing to organisational goals and outcomes
    • modelling behaviours integral to good people management and departmental values
    • managing and monitoring specific improvement objectives in annual improvement plans relating to the area of responsibility
    • coaching, developing and managing a team
    • pro-actively building and maintaining positive relationships with peers and stakeholders across the organisation
    • supporting change management and providing positive and constructive leadership during and following change management periods
  • Where responsible for overseeing, monitoring or delivering projects, ensure they are delivered in accordance with relevant legislation and government regulations and guidelines.
