An exciting opportunity exists to join our team and play an important leadership role in Respect Victoria. Reporting to the Director Policy, Research and Influence, the Manager, Prevention Policy and Influence will provide strategic leadership around the development of evidence-informed public policy in the prevention of family violence/violence against women. The position will support Respect Victoria's legislated role in providing policy advice to Government, as well as offer thought leadership to influence the way in which public policy around the prevention of family violence/violence against women is developed and implemented.

Reporting to the Director Policy, Research and Influence, the Manager, Prevention Policy and Influence will provide strategic leadership around the development of evidence-informed public policy in the prevention of family violence/violence against women. The position will support Respect Victoria's legislated role in providing policy advice to Government, as well as offer thought leadership to influence the way in which public policy around the prevention of family violence/violence against women is developed and implemented. With experience in the prevention of family violence/violence against women sector, including nuanced understanding of stakeholders and key prevention issues, the successful candidate will lead and support a team of specialist prevention policy staff and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to lead and deliver evidence-based policy and position papers, submissions and reports to authoritatively lead and drive thought leadership in prevention, and to inform and support Respect Victoria's public positioning and strategic intent.

Working as part of the Senior Management Team, you will be responsible for working collaboratively with the CEO, Directors and other Managers to drive and inform evidence based public policy, help build a collegiate, robust and supportive organisational culture, to advise and support the Senior Leadership Team in the development and implementation of policy, to develop strong partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders and work closely with a range of government partners.

Respect Victoria

Respect Victoria was established as a Statutory Authority under the Prevention of Family Violence Act 2018 (the Act) on 4 October 2018. We have a broad focus on the primary prevention of all forms of violence against women and family violence in Victoria, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to provide statewide leadership to create social, institutional, organisational and community change.

Essential experience and skills

  • Demonstrated experience in leading change or strategy within the prevention of family violence/violence against women sector of at least five years
  • Demonstrated experience in leading policy development or policy thought leadership, including experience in the production of high-quality policy position papers, briefings, and reports
  • Demonstrated experience in staff management, leadership and team development

Desirable skills and experience

  • Demonstrated experience in prevention of family violence/violence against women in a Victorian context
  • Project management and contract management experience

Essential expertise

  • Specialist knowledge and expertise in the prevention of family violence/violence against women
  • An understanding of key levers in government and civil society to influence policy direction and drive change

Desirable expertise

  • Relevant expertise in or exposure to a government context
