About Monash Pathology
The Monash Health Pathology Service operates under the brand name of Monash Pathology and is an integral part of Monash Health. It is one of the largest providers of Pathology services in the state and currently operates 5 laboratories. The largest of these is located at the Monash Medical Centre, Clayton, with additional facilities being located at the Dandenong, Moorabbin, Casey and Wonthaggi Hospitals.

About the Role

Grade 1 Medical Scientist Full-Time Maternity Leave position in the Anatomical Pathology Department. The successful candidates will be expected to participate in staff rotations for both duties and roster schedules for 76hrs F/N + ADO. The laboratory operates 5AM until 9PM Monday to Friday and Saturday 6AM until 2:30PM.

You must be able to perform all tests provided by the unit without supervision (following suitable training) which include:

  • Receipt of specimens into the laboratory
  • Perform specimen cut up for simple and non-complex specimens as outlined by NPAAC guidelines
  • Competent in embedding and microtomy of surgical and post mortem specimens
  • Assisting and cutting frozen sections for urgent diagnosis
  • Perform routine, special staining and immunohistochemistry techniques using prescribed methodologies and appropriate control procedures (including maintenance)
  • Allocation of cases to pathologists for reporting
  • Assist at renal biopsy procedure to insure appropriate tissue sampling
  • Assist with a range of mortuary duties
  • Other duties as directed

About You:

  • You must have a dedicated degree in Medical Laboratory Science with a major in Histology.
  • Experience in a diagnostic histopathology laboratory is preferred.
  • Previous mortuary experience would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • A Member of Histology Group of Victoria and Tasmania (HGVT) and Australian Institute of Medical Scientist (AIMS) preferred.
