The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine is Australia’s most comprehensive forensic medical facility. We serve the Victorian community and the whole of the Victorian justice system, especially the courts.

We provide the justice system with evidence to underpin safe convictions and appropriate acquittals. Our doctors help investigate deaths reported to the Coroner, examine alleged offenders and assess, treat and support victims of crime.

The Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria supports patients and their families by providing safe tissues for transplantation and medical research.

Play a pivotal role in the day-to-day provision of our Coronal Admissions and Enquiries function and support our effort to provide an invaluable community service.

About the Role

The Medical Liaison Nurse applies medical knowledge and quality case management expertise to ensure streamlined coordination of the initial stages of the coronial death investigation, and works to critical and inflexible deadlines, whilst dealing with difficult and complex situations in a calm and responsive manner.

This position is part of a multidisciplinary team and the Medical Liaison Nurse participates in shiftwork on a seven day a week roster.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver contemporary nursing practice
  • Coordinate and manage the initial stages of investigation of deaths reported to the Coroner in collaboration with other team members of CA&E
  • Gather information related to reported deaths
  • Liaise with families
  • Ability to participate in shiftwork on a seven day a week roster.

About You

Key Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Current Nursing Registration (RN) with AHPRA.
  • Demonstrated post-graduate experience in a acute clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated post-graduate experience in a critical care setting is desirable.
  • Post-graduate qualification in critical care nursing is desirable.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and liaison skills.
