Mental Health Clinician

  • Based in Northern Areas Mental Health Service’s Noogal Clinic, Mill Park

  • Full Time Fixed Term until September 2022 (including ADOs per month!)


The Northern Area Mental Health Service delivers a range of acute and community psychiatric services to people residing in the local government areas of Darebin and Whittlesea. We deliver specialist clinical programs across Adult Community Services, Adult Acute Inpatient Service, EMH (including PACER) and Consultation and Liaison Psychiatry Service at the Northern Hospital, Community Care Unit, and Prevention and Recovery Care Service (PARC).



We are seeking an experienced and passionate Occupational Therapist (OT2), Psychologist (P2), Social Worker (SW2) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN3) to join us a Mental Health Clinician.



About your new role:



  • Provide excellent leadership and to use advanced clinical knowledge to enhance the treatment and care of consumers

  • Direct supervision and delegation of tasks to Psychiatric Enrolled Nurses

  • Comprehensive physical health assessment and metabolic monitoring of clients

  • Provision of intensive community based interventions and outreach support as clinically indicated to consumers and their families

  • Work collaboratively with consumers, families, carers and other service providers including GP’s and NDIS service providers

  • Provide discipline specific evidence based practice and appropriate treatment options as required


About You:



  • Extensive experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of severe mental illness and psychiatric disability

  • Capacity to undertake alcohol and other drug screening, assessment, treatment planning, brief interventions with consumers who have co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with consumers, families/carers, colleagues and other service providers

  • Ability to work with consumers, family and carers from a range of cultural backgrounds, and to provide gender sensitive services
