Mental Health Clinician (Grade 2 Occupational Therapist, Social worker, Speech Pathologist, Psychologist/Grade3 Psychiatric Nurse) or Senior Mental Health Clinician (Grade 3 Occupational Therapist, Social worker, Speech Pathologist, Psychologist/Grade4 Psychiatric Nurse) – Travancore Community Mental Health Team

  • Fixed-term, Part-time, 0.6 FTE, parental leave cover until 25/2/2025

  • Grade 2 or Grade 3 classification depending on qualifications and experience.  

 

 

About the Role:

 

This is a fixed term, part time position to cover parental leave until 25/2/2025, at 45.6 hrs per fortnight within the Travancore Community Mental Health Team. 

 

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will provide high quality, tertiary mental health care for infants and children 0 to 15 years and their families through skilled assessment, treatment, and case management.  

 

You will also be involved in providing consultation to teams and services within the hospital, and external organizations and service providers to promote collaboration and build capacity. You may also be expected to join the clinical team supporting our In2School Day Program for a 6-month rotational period.  

 

 

Classification for this position will range from; 

Grade 2 Occupational Therapist (YB20-YB23) 

Grade 2 Psychologist (PK1-PK4) 

Grade 2 Social Worker (YC42-YC45) 

Grade 2 Speech Pathologist (YB47-YB50)

or 

Grade 3 Registered Psychiatric Nurse (NP81-NP74)

Grade 3 Occupational Therapist (YB24-YB27) 

Grade 3 Psychologist (PL1-PL4) 

Grade 3 Social Worker (YC46-YC49) 

Grade 3 Speech Pathologist (YB51-YB54) 

Grade 4 Registered Psychiatric Nurse (NP75-NP77) 

 

 

To be successful in this role you will have: 

 

  • Demonstrated clinical skills and significant experience in the provision of effective and efficient child and adolescent mental health care  

  • Demonstrated ability to practice autonomously, as well as within an interdisciplinary team 

  • Provide high quality clinical supervision to other mental health clinicians and students (Grade 3) 

  • Demonstrated experience in professional supervision of clinicians and students (Grade 3) 

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to maximise service coordination and cooperation as well as capacity building with community agencies 

  • Demonstrated interest or experience in quality improvement and program evaluation 

  • Demonstrated upholding and promotion of clinical and professional standards of practice.  

  • A commitment and evidence of evidence-based practice and continuing professional development including an ability to find and apply evidence in decision-making 

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and inter-personal skills 

  • Demonstrated awareness and understanding of legal obligations when working in a CAMHS context in Victoria 

  • A flexible and adaptable approach to functioning in a team environment that enhances the team’s high performance 

 

 

Your skills and experience:

 

  • Tertiary Qualification or equivalent in relevant discipline 

  • Current Registration as an Occupational Therapist, Psychologist or Registered Nurse with the applicable Health Practitioner Board or a qualified Social Worker or Speech Pathologist. 

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working in true partnership with other community mental health teams and community/family welfare agencies to plan and implement effective interventions for children and young people experiencing complex mental health problems 

  • Experience in providing quality clinical/professional supervision to staff and students (Grade 3) 

  • Depending on discipline, required years of experience in accordance with the EBA will apply

About the Department

 

RCH Mental Health is a Level 5 tertiary Infant, Child and Family Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service and comprises community and hospital-based services. This includes three multidisciplinary community teams which are based in Travancore, Sunshine and Hoppers Crossing.  This position will be primarily based at Travancore however you may be required to work across sites should the needs of the service require this. 

 

Our Community Mental Health Programs are undergoing an exciting transformation and expansion as we implement the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System. The transformation will allow the RCH Mental Health Service to help more infants, children, and their families, and implement contemporary models of care that best meet the needs of the families we serve and support them to use their collective strengths for recovery and hope. As part of this transformation, there will be opportunities for further training, supervision, and development.
