About the role
The Youth Mental Health Team is a multi-disciplinary team which provides support and treatment to persons aged 15 to 24 who may be experiencing a Major Mental Illness or significant Mental Distress.

This position will require the successful candidates to provide assessment, treatment and crisis interventions. This will also include liaison with other community services within the local communities.

We are seeking a mental health clinician to join our Ballarat Youth Mental Health Team. The successful candidate will be based in Ballarat.

The team is well supported by a full time Psychiatrist and Psychiatric Registrar. Grampians Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (GAMHWS) is a dynamic Area Mental Health Service, proudly part of Grampians Health striving to provide the highest standards of treatment to people in the Greater Grampians region.

We are currently in the process of undergoing significant service reform with the active involvement and engagement of all staff in the service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinically treat a caseload of patients as the primary treating clinician within a multi- disciplinary team that emphasises,
    practices and continually seeks to improve patient-centred, family-inclusive, community-based, evidence-based and best practices
  • Actively and effectively, work within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to the generic and discipline-specific clinical expertise of that multidisciplinary team.
  • Evaluate the effects of implemented treatment of all patients and their families in accordance with BHS – MHS policies, procedures and discipline-specific standards.
  • Undertake comprehensive mental health assessments, identify and prioritize patient and family needs and/or referral option.

Skills and experience

  • Relevant professional qualification in a health-related discipline (psychology, nursing, social work or occupational therapy)
  • Experience working therapeutically with young people and their families
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • High degree of professionalism and demonstrated ability to maintain ethical standards
