Position

Austin Pool is recruiting highly experienced and motivated Mental Health Registered and Enrolled nurses on permanent basis with full time and part-time positions available. Austin Health's Mental Health Service provides recovery-oriented practice and supported decision-making in a collaborative and meaningful way for consumers and carers.

Austin Pool nurses are an important part of the organisation and are the face of Austin Health’s Workforce team.

Successful applicants will possess a patient centre approach to care delivery and continually strive to deliver collaborative and multidisciplinary services with respect and integrity.

A comprehensive range of general and specialist Mental Health services are offered including:

• Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service


• Adult Mental Health (Acute Psychiatric and Secure Extended Care Units)


• Brain Disorders Program


• Psychological Trauma and Recovery Service


• Crisis Assessment and Treatment Service/Mental Health Triage

We welcome applications from nurses with at least 2 years experience post registration in acute clinical settings, including experience in mental health nursing.

Expectations of role

As a Registered Nurse working with Austin Health, it is expected that you will:

• Practice within own scope of practice in accordance with legislation and policy affecting nursing practice and healthcare


• Recognise and respond appropriately to unsafe or unprofessional practice


• Practise in a way that acknowledges the dignity, culture, values, beliefs and rights of individuals /groups and aligning to Austin Health’s organisational values.


• Act as an advocate for patients within organisational and management structures of Austin Health.


• Recognise the difference in accountability and responsibility between registered nurses, enrolled nurses and unlicensed health care workers

The successful applicant will need to:

• Work to a centrally managed roster that is coordinated by the Nursing Workforce Unit. 


• Have the flexibility to work within a rotating roster across a variety of clinical settings.


• Possess exceptional communication skills


• Have a current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia


• Have a minimum of 12 months acute hospital experience


• Have Australian working rights


• Provide a minimum of 2 clinical references including a current NUM or manager, and an ANUM or Nurse Educator level
