An exciting permanent opportunity for an enthusiastic self-starter to coordinate and manage the ecological fire function across Parks Victoria's Northern Region.
About the role:
As the Northern Planning Officer (Fire Ecology), you will be responsible for the coordination and management of the ecological fire function within the Region, with a focus on strategic fire ecology planning and programming. You will work with District, Regional and Corporate staff and external partners and stakeholders to plan and deliver ecological fire projects and programs, including oversight of the Regional ecological burning program, providing fire ecology expertise to staff and stakeholders, and advocating for and coordinating ecological fire research.
You will also partner with Traditional Owners to facilitate cultural fire practices and enable cultural fire programs on Parks Victoria estate, in accordance with Government and Parks Victoria strategies, frameworks and policies. As required, the position may also support broader programming and operations across the planning, response and recovery phases of the fire and emergency program.

Parks Victoria's Northern Region consists of a diverse range of parks and reserves covering River Red Gum, Mallee, Box-ironbark, Northern Plains Grasslands and Forest landscapes. Staff working within the region are responsible for providing efficient and effective implementation of a broad range of often complex park management functions including natural, cultural and built asset management, visitor management and services, stakeholder management, park planning and emergency response.
