Patient Services Assistant

The Patient Services Assistant (PSA) is responsible for the provision of an efficient ancillary patient care service. With day to day functional reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager or their representative, he/she is required to undertake a wide range of duties to ensure that a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene is maintained throughout all areas of the ward and the kitchen.

The Patient Services Assistant team sits within each NorthWestern Mental Health Inpatient Unit. The team of permanent and casual employee provides cleaning and food services support to all inpatient units.



  • We are a busy and friendly team working together to provide excellent care to patients and their families.

  • We enjoy a collaborative working environment, providing a service to inpatient units and departments at NorthWestern Mental Health sites 


Your success in this role, will be in your ability to



  • Interact with staff, patients, relatives and colleagues

  • Ensuring a clean environment is maintained (patient rooms, common areas and office space)

  • Disposal of all general and clinical waste

  • Provide a service in Food services (kitchen and Dining area)

  • Liaise with Team leaders and Unit staff


Your Contribution



  • Certificate III in Health Service Assistance

  • Availability to work full range of shifts including weekends and public holidays

  • Willingness to contribute to quality patient care

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including an ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients and families

  • Initiative in prioritising workload

  • Commitment to a professional work ethic

  • Ability to safely use cleaning supplies and equipment

  • Participate in a roster and wok in allocated are and other areas as requested

  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts
