The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine is Australia’s most comprehensive forensic medical facility. We serve the Victorian community and the whole of the Victorian justice system, especially the courts.

We provide the justice system with evidence to underpin safe convictions and appropriate acquittals. Our doctors help investigate deaths reported to the Coroner, examine alleged offenders and assess, treat and support victims of crime.

About us

The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) is an independent statutory authority governed by the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine Act 1985. It is part of the Justice portfolio of the Victorian Government. 

The work of the VIFM can be described as a cycle of three parts:

  • providing forensic medical and scientific services to the justice system and tissue banking
  • learning from this work
  • researching and teaching.

About the role

As the Policy and Procedure Writer, you will be responsible for:

  • the development of effective and cooperative relationships with operational service areas to understand their policy requirements
  • collaborating with the subject matter experts at the VIFM to enable a productive and positive review and development of policies and procedures
  • contributing to the development, modification, maintenance and implementation of new and existing policies, procedures, and work instructions
  • assisting in the communication of changes to policy, procedures, work instructions or practice as required.

About you

As the Policy and Procedure Writer, you will possess:

  • a demonstrated ability to synthesise ideas and convey those ideas in a policy statement and document
  • a demonstrated ability to translate complex documents into simplified, practical language and ability to proofread and edit to a high standard
  • an ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements of the VIFM and the Victorian Public Sector
  • a demonstrated ability to work autonomously yet collegially.

A Bachelor's degree in Law would be highly desirable.
