This is an exciting opportunity for a Policy Officer with strong analytic skills to join the Budget Strategy and Funding Reform Division (BSFRD). The Policy Officer will contribute to the divisions funding reform work: development of advice and proposals to improve the departments funding and resource allocation models.

About the role

As a Policy Officer, you will have opportunities to:

  • build relationships and networks working on projects of significance for areas across the department
  • develop discussion papers, submissions, reports and briefings for key decision makers including, committees, expert bodies and ministers
  • identify ways to interrogate problems using data and analytic methods; conduct data analysis with a range of financial, administrative and demographic data; and build models to represent available policy options and their effects
  • communicate the strengths and limitations of analysis in advice to senior officers, executives and stakeholders

The Policy Officer will be supported to hone their skills and take on the above opportunities in a learning and development-focused team environment.

About you

As a Policy Officer, you will possess:

  • general policy, coordination and stakeholder skills
  • strong written and verbal communication, including an ability to clearly convey complex and technical information
  • analytic and conceptual skills to reason through problems, including by conducting quantitative data analysis
  • experience with Microsoft Excel (highly desirable) and other statistical software, e.g. Stata, R, etc. (desirable)
  • a tertiary studies qualification in a field that utilises quantitative data analysis (desirable).
