ABOUT THE POSITION:

The primary responsibility of the Programs Officer, First Peoples Experiences is to be accountable for engaging with both First Peoples communities and general public audiences to provide programs which contribute to a greater understanding of the cultures of First Peoples of south-eastern Australia.

Some of the key duties include: 

  • Present a broad range of programs, activities or shows for booked groups and general audiences for the First Peoples Experiences Department; 
  • As directed, collaborate with relevant staff from across Museums Victoria to develop a broad range of First Peoples programs that engage diverse audiences, reflect Museums Victoria's strategic directions and embody the venue experience; 
  • Develop, source and prepare program materials such as handouts, props etc; 
  • Provide feedback to Senior Programs Officers, Programs Coordinators and Programs Managers on the audience response to programs; 
  • Contribute to the development of and deliver training for volunteers and staff who assist in the delivery of First Peoples public and education programs; 

The successful applicant will have:

  • A sound understanding of and strong relationships with First Peoples of south-eastern Australia, and the ability to effectively liaise with First Peoples communities more broadly; 
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present First Peoples knowledge, cultures, histories and technology for diverse audiences;
  • Experience in the research, development and delivery of engaging programs for diverse audiences;
  • Awareness of education and learning techniques for diverse audiences and the ability to transfer this knowledge to a museum context; 

OTHER INFORMATION

This is a Full-time, Ongoing role. The salary on offer is $66,063 based of grade (pro rata) + 11% superannuation.
