Road Safety Victoria is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning, and is responsible for leading the efforts of all road safety partners to deliver a collective response across government, our industry partners, and the Victorian community to create a safe road environment that supports all road users regardless of mode to make safe choices aimed to reduced road trauma as we work towards the vision of zero deaths on Victorian roads by 2050.

About the Role

The Project Lead - Road Safety Evaluation drives the delivery of high-quality evaluations for road safety projects and programs. The role is responsible for the successful end-deliver delivery of evaluations of road safety projects and programs including the establishment of systems to support their delivery and has a key focus on evaluating the effectiveness of infrastructure initiatives and investments in reducing road trauma in Victoria.

The role requires the application of extensive road safety, data analysis and evaluation knowledge, along with project and contract management expertise to enable the delivery of a range of evaluation projects across the project and program lifecycle. It works with colleagues and senior leaders across the Department of Transport and Planning and the road safety partnership to provide expert advice on road safety evaluations, develop evaluation frameworks, deliver evaluation projects embed best-practice evaluation methodologies, develop and monitor ongoing evaluation project pipelines, and identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.

Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills will be essential to ensure key stakeholder issues are understood and addressed and a collaborative approach is taken to scoping and delivering road safety evaluation projects. A strong understanding of research, data analysis and evaluation techniques will ensure that evaluations are methodologically sound and robust. Excellent communication skills will also be critical to enable the development of communications targeted to different audiences, effectively translating evaluation frameworks and fundings into an easily digestible form.

It emphasizes providing expert advice, fostering strong stakeholder collaborations, and driving continuous improvement in evaluation processes while delivering clear, audience-focused communications.

  • Road Safety (Accomplished) - Has a strong grasp of a wide range of road safety issues and the corresponding treatments. They actively contribute to the development and implementation of road safety solutions, drawing upon their extensive knowledge to address complex safety challenges. In-depth understanding of advanced statistical models to assess road safety issues. Proficient in cutting-edge treatments and technological interventions.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving (Accomplished) -Takes into account wider business context within business unit when considering options to resolve issues. Identifies recurring problems and prevents future recurrence by integrating solutions into work process. Delivers tangible business outcomes as a result of critically evaluating problems from multiple perspectives and delivering effective solutions.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • Experience in the delivery of complex project and program evaluations in the road safety, public sector policy or public health areas.
  • A strong understanding of the safe system approach to road safety.

Desirable

  • Road safety engineering expertise.
  • Strong communications skills and the ability to present complex information in a digestible form.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong, productive partnerships with key stakeholders.
