The Game Management Authority (GMA) is an independent statutory authority responsible for the regulation of game hunting in Victoria. It delivers programs to improve and promote sustainable and responsible hunting in Victoria.
The GMA is responsible for:
  • issuing Game Licences and related testing;
  • managing open and closed seasons for game species;
  • enforcing game hunting laws and taking action against those who do not hunt legally; and
  • educating and informing hunters on how to hunt legally and responsibly in Victoria.

Project Manager – Game Management Authority

• Salary: $109,730 - $121,247 (Plus Superannuation)
• Fixed term role: Until 30 June 2026
• Usual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available)
• Usual work location: Benalla or Melbourne CBD (flexibility may be available)

The Role

The Project Manager will contribute to the design and implementation of a GMA research program aimed to determine the rate of waterfowl wounding that occurs in recreational duck hunting in Victoria. This position will provide support to the Research Principal and Research Scientist in delivering this research project.

The responsibilities of the Project Manager will include:

• Manage the development and implementation of the wounding rate project, working with stakeholders and contracted research partners in the development of training material
• Organise daily logistics of research processes and manage safety procedures for hunters and contract research personnel and oversee and manage data collection processes
• Provide advice and assistance to landowners and land managers in relation to research timelines and requirements for land access permissions and approvals

The Team

The position of Project Manager forms a part of the Game Management Authority.

The Game Management Authority delivers programs to improve and promote sustainable and responsible game hunting in Victoria. 

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

• Proven experience in project management
• Experience in delivering research projects including participation in experimental design, field work and data collection.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including experience in coordinating people of varying levels of expertise and the ability to convey complex concepts to a range of audiences.
