The Team

The position of Project Officer Domestic Quarantine forms a part of the Biosecurity and Agriculture Services (BAS) branch within the Agriculture Victoria group.

The Biosecurity and Agriculture Services (BAS) branch designs and delivers services, provides technical advice and influences policy to support the agriculture sector to achieve sustainable growth while managing risks and minimising adverse impacts to the economy, environment and public health and safety.

The Role

The Project Officer, Domestic Quarantine, provides authoritative advice to the Domestic Quarantine team and the Chief Plant Health Officer on the development and implementation of market access and pest and disease management programs delivered to support Victorian and interstate plant industries. The position requires good communication and writing skills as well as a sound understanding of quality assurance and pest/risk management principles. The position reports to the Senior Officer Domestic Quarantine and contributes to the development and implementation of containment programs for high risk plant pests.

The role provides advice to industry stakeholders and interstate government agencies on market access, plant protection and domestic quarantine programs and standards. The position may also be required to participate on relevant national committees, providing advice and support to national response programs.

The role works closely with diverse teams across the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR), including Agriculture Research Victoria (AVR), and Plants Chemicals and Invasives (PCI). Working with these teams, contemporary strategies and policies are developed and implemented to enable improved biosecurity outcomes for plant industries.
