The Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA) is responsible for the rollout of the Victorian Government's multi-billion-dollar health capital projects. We're delivering world-class health facilities across Victoria including new public hospitals and emergency care, community health services, ambulance branches, residential aged care and mental health facilities. VHBA also provides technical support across engineering, property, asset management and environmental sustainability disciplines.

The opportunity 

The Project Safety Advisor will be responsible for attending project construction sites and carrying out site safety observations, the ongoing implementation of the VHBA Safety Incident Management Systems and for the management of the development, adoption and maintenance of best practice safety management systems, procedures and communications across VHBA's broad health infrastructure construction program. This position requires a strong working knowledge of construction related safety management systems, safety legislation and experience in engaging with both internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and ensure successful delivery of key health and safety initiatives and programs. 

  • Actively implement and maintain the Safety Incident Management Systems (SIMS) system including onboarding, data entry, actions from HPI's, tracking of NCR's, reporting, system improvements and analytics
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders in the relevant requirements of health and safety management systems, procedures and processes
  • Assist with the development, implementation and coordination of inductions and safety training to support continuous improvements for the safety of VHBA staff and projects

We are looking for:

  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying Occupational Health and Safety legislation to provide technical safety advice to a variety of stakeholders
  • Strong working proficiency of Safety Incident Management Systems (SIMS) and standard office-based software and extensive experience in drafting and preparing documentation 
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral), with the capacity to listen to others, identify their needs, gain cooperation and provide appropriate direction, guidance and support
