About the role:

The Freedom of Information (FOI) division sits within the Governance and Assurance Department of Victoria Police.  We administer and process requests for documents in line with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic). 

The role of Public Support Information Officer is to provide expert and responsive administrative assistance within the unit in both the initial receiving of requests as well as the sourcing of appropriate documents.  Please note that this role can include dealing with difficult, sensitive and distressing material.

Your duties will include:

  • Working within a team environment
  • Determining the validity of applications in line with the Act
  • Communicating with applicants and/or their legal representatives to clarify requests, provide advice and updates where appropriate
  • Searching for documents by utilising a variety of databases, systems or communicating with other areas of Victoria Police
  • Provide advice regarding FOI legislation, policies and administration 

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • A drive and determination to achieve the best outcomes for applicants;
  • An investigative nature that enjoys problem solving;
  • The ability to think analytically;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • An ability to understand how your role fits within your team as well as the broader context of the Victoria Police organisation and FOI process;
  • Attention to detail and proven skills in the maintenance of accurate records; and
  • The ability to manage your own workload whilst meeting regulated time frames.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • Two (2) Full Time Ongoing and One (1) Part Time Ongoing (0.5 FTE)
  • These positions are located within the Victoria Police Centre (VPC), 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
