Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the Northeast of Melbourne and state-wide.  We have a highly engaged, diverse and collaborative workforce that is unified by our goal to help people live healthy and fulfilled lives.

About Emergency nursing:

Our Emergency Department is at the forefront of new and innovative models of emergency care, and is a contemporary leader in emergency medicine education and research.  We have a strong focus on nurse development and upskilling opportunities with both a Transition to Specialty Practice Program and Post Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Nursing offered each year.  We are a close knit and caring team who invest in building up our colleagues with peer support, wellness initiatives and work/life balance.

About the role:

As a Registered Nurse within our ED and Short Stay Unit you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of evidence-based nursing care, in order to optimise health outcomes for the community, within a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

Key responsibilities will see you:

  • Support a philosophy of care, which is patient focused, and where the family is welcome in the carer’s team
  • Assist with medical and diagnostic procedures carried out within the unit
  • Assist with the education and orientation of new undergraduate students and casual staff
  • Achieve and maintain the skills necessary, through personal professional development, to plan, prioritise and implement holistic patient care

About you:

You will be someone who understands that you can be the best part of a person’s worst day, and approach each new patient with a commitment to progressing their care.  You’ll thrive on the variety and challenge of working in one of Melbourne's busiest ED’s, and be looking to grow as a nurse and as a person on the healthcare frontline.

You’ll further have:

  • AHPRA Registered Nurse registration, Division 1
  • A Post Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Nursing
  • A minimum of 5 years Emergency Nursing Experience
  • Have the ability to care for critically ill patients in the Resusciation Rooms
  • Have the ability to perform in the role of Triage Nurse
  • A commitment to quality, best practice and environmental safety
  • The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form

Our benefits:

Working at Austin Health means enjoying a strong sense of purpose, engaging in meaningful work every day.  Our people also receive a variety of rewarding benefits, including:

  • Greater take-home pay through generous salary packaging
  • A suite of wellness initiatives designed to support you, including discounts on fitness memberships and health insurance, and a comprehensive wellbeing program
  • Mentoring and career development opportunities
  • Onsite childcare, easy access via public transport, car parking and end of journey facilities for cyclists
  • Relocation expense reimbursement
  • Six weeks annual leave

Inclusion at Austin:

We celebrate, value, and include people of all backgrounds, genders, identities, cultures, bodies, and abilities.  We welcome and support applications from anyone identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, physically or culturally diverse, LGBTQI+, and people of any age.

Work with us!

If you feel this role is right for you, we encourage your early application.  All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory National Police Check and if required, a Working with Children Check.
