  • Supported entry into Emergency Nursing

About the role

Eastern Health has permanent employment opportunities for passionate, enthusiastic and agile nurses who are keen to transition into an emergency department setting.

We are looking for Registered Nurses with no or limited emergency experience, but who want to build the knowledge, skills and confidence to work within the low acuity and short stay areas of the Emergency Department.  Eastern Health has designed an Introduction in Emergency Nursing program to help you succeed in this transition, plus you will be supported by a team of dedicated and experienced Emergency Nurses under the Advanced Preceptorship Program developed at Maroondah Emergency.

This start in emergency nursing will also open the door to a host of other opportunities to develop a career in Emergency Nursing. This includes a sixth-month Transition to Specialty Program (equipping you to work in high acuity areas of the Emergency Department) and a twelve-month Post Graduate Program (to work in critical care areas of the ED).

You will also become a valued member of a highly dedicated, multi-disciplinary team incorporating medical, nursing, clerical and allied health professionals.  We pride ourselves on our teamwork. It is through working together we are able to aspire to excellence in the care we provide to our patients and their families.

About the department

The Emergency Department at Maroondah Hospital cares for approximately 60,000 patients per year, averaging 165 presentations per day.  Presentations include critically unwell patients requiring immediate stabilisation as well as a significant proportion of paediatric presentations. Departmental resources include 35 treatment spaces, including; 3 resuscitation bays, dedicated paediatric and fast track treatment areas, and a 20 bed combined adult and paediatric Short Stay Unit.

We are also excited that the Maroondah Hospital Emergency Department has commenced planning for a dedicated paediatric Emergency zone and paediatric Short Stay Unit.

About you

You are dedicated, empathetic and adaptable. You understand, and are interested in, the complex and varied presentations that attend an Emergency Department on a daily basis.  You are keen to develop the critical thinking and assessment skills required to provide excellent care to these patients and their families.

To be successful in this role you should possess;

  • Current registration with AHPRA

  • Minimum 12 months’ experience in an acute care setting

  • A strong commitment to high quality care

  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
